Australia Day - Raising Money for WWF
Following the tragic bushfires in Australia we know children and parents are keen to do something to raise money and awareness.
Australia Day is celebrated annually on the 26th January and we felt this was a great time to talk to the children about Britain’s links to Australia as well as to discuss Australia’s current tragedy (appropriate to the age of the child).
Non-uniform - We will be inviting all children to come to school into on Monday 27th January 2020 dressed in the colours of either the Australian flag (red, white and blue) or the Australian sports teams (green and yellow). For this we will be asking for donations of a £1. Throughout the day there will be assemblies, activities and lessons looking at the history of Australia, what it is like in Australia as well as learning about what has caused the fires, the effect they are having on the people, animals and environment and how the way we live can impact our world .
Cake Sale - We would also like to request donations of cakes and biscuits for cake sales which will be held on the KS1 Playground (under the shelter opposite EYFS) and outside the Wedge (Class 6CJ) from 2.30p.m. Cakes can be brought in on Monday morning via the Main Office or Classrooms.
We hope to raise both awareness and money which we will then donate to the WWF to help provide emergency care for the injured wildlife.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support!
